The Otto Bremer Trust Center for Safe and Healthy Children at the University of Minnesota is dedicated to providing medical care for victims and potential victims of child abuse and neglect. The Center's specialty trained multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive medical evaluations, forensic documentation, and psychosocial assessments — all within a trauma-informed, safe environment.

The Center provides trauma-focused medical and psychosocial services to families who have experienced child abuse and neglect, with the ultimate goal of supporting families' healing and recovery. As a part of their care, children and adolescents are screened for symptoms of childhood traumatic stress, including suicidal ideation, and are provided support and resources. Beyond direct patient care, the Center also provides consultation, advocacy services, and education.

Thanks to generous philanthropic support from the Lothenbach Family Foundation and the Sauer Family Foundation, the Center for Safe and Healthy Children is able to continue providing medical care for victims of child abuse and neglect.

The University of Minnesota Foundation is grateful to the Will to Cure ALD Foundation for a $100,000 gift supporting Dr. Troy Lund's research on Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a rare and often fatal genetic disease. Will to Cure ALD was founded by the Hall family, whose son, William, was diagnosed with ALD as a newborn, and whose mother, Taylor, was later diagnosed as well.

Turning fear into action, the family launched their foundation in late 2024 and has since raised over $3 million to accelerate ALD research nationwide. This gift will fund two projects at the University of Minnesota focused on the next phase of Gene Therapy 2.0: improving the safety of lentiviral gene delivery and increasing cell correction efficiency, both critical steps toward a safer, more effective treatment.

The Hall family believes that urgency, bold funding, and collaboration can change the trajectory of ALD for patients and families everywhere. We're honored to be part of this work and to help carry it forward.
