On this , we'd like you to meet JaeCee, a third-year Math Tutor in Albany, Georgia! As a tutor returning to where she went to elementary school, she enjoys the familiarity of her role and loves helping the next generation of students learn and grow.

In her past two years as a Math Tutor, JaeCee has found that being patient with her students and slowing down lessons is where she finds the most success. She explains that students went from guessing or giving up on math problems to sticking with it, even when they made some mistakes. Eventually, students started trusting themselves in their abilities and building math confidence!

We're so excited to watch JaeCee grow alongside her students this year as a Math Tutor and know she will make such a positive impact on the next generation of math students. Thank you for making a difference in your community, JaeCee!

We're proud to share that Reading Corps, Math Corps, and Early Learning Corps tutors will be on-site at Pratt Elementary School in Minneapolis supporting students this school year! A partnership that goes back more than a decade, the focus has always been to work together to help local students boost their skills and confidence.

It's all thanks to the team at Pratt and their commitment to helping us deliver evidence-based tutoring solutions. Special shoutout to Principal Justyn Burgess who helps us put our mission in action! With a lifelong passion for helping others, Verna previously supported patients at a local hospital before entering the education field as a substitute teacher. Looking to further her experience in the classroom, she joined Math Corps as a tutor in 2023 and has been at it ever since!

Verna loves watching her students build their confidence, especially when she notices that children who were hesitant to raise their hand in class become more eager to participate. One of her proudest moments came when helping a student learn the order of operations, something she had previously struggled to remember. One day during tutoring, the student volunteered to work out a problem and understood each step needed to solve the equation. Her fellow students even congratulated her on a job well done!

Located in Poughkeepsie, New York, Krieger Elementary partners with Math Corps and Early Learning Corps to bring evidence-based tutoring to students reading and math. Our collaboration began with Math Corps in 2023, and we have since served 256 students. This past school year, we extended our services to early learners, with tutors helping more than 40 children build essential foundational skills ahead of kindergarten!

We are so appreciative of Principal Melissa Barrow and the entire Krieger Elementary team for helping us serve more students in New York. Our deepest gratitude to every local tutor who has served, and a very special welcome to the eight who will be joining us for the 2026-27 school year — we are confident that you will make a lasting impact!

Mike spent the majority of his career in healthcare research and analytics before pivoting to substitute teaching roles at schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota. His love for problem-solving and experience working in classrooms make him a wonderful addition to Math Corps, where he tutors K-3 students in Saint Paul.

Mike says one of his favorite parts about serving with Math Corps is that he gets to contribute to the well-being of students and the greater community. "Through improving skills in grade-level mathematics, I hope that these students will become more comfortable and confident in their abilities," he says.

As for his future plans, Mike hopes to use his Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to further his own education, or give it to his daughter, who hopes to become an educator herself. In the meantime, we are so excited to have him back for another year of impact this fall! Thank you for helping students strengthen their math skills, Mike!

We are proud to highlight Sheridan Hills Elementary, a long-time school partner! This fall, we're excited to have Reading Corps, Math Corps, and Early Learning Corps tutors on-site to bring individualized support and skill-building to Richfield area students.

As we head into the upcoming school year, we recognize that our mission would not be possible without the wonderful tutors who have positively impacted students throughout the years. Special shoutout to Reading Tutor Thomas, who has been with the Sheridan Hills community for the past three years! He will be joined by Reading Tutors William and Gilbert this upcoming school year, along with Math Tutor Victoria and Early Learning Tutor Mihret — welcome!

Thank you to Principal Yvette Garcia and local staff for helping us expand this important work to students at every stage of learning development. We are excited to help build more confident, well-rounded scholars who are ready to take on more challenges in school and beyond!

Consistent, individualized math support makes a lasting difference — just look at the numbers! During the 2025-26 school year, 87% of Math Corps students improved their math skills. By providing high-impact tutoring, we're building successful math scholars with stronger futures ahead!
