The fight against budget cuts to special education in Minneapolis Public Schools is ramping up! More than 120 staff are being cut at a time when special ed enrollment is steady or even increasing. These cuts are the largest of their kind in a generation, coming at a time of increasing attacks on disabled people, public education, and unions.

Our largest action yet is a "Family Friendly Art Build and Takeover" of the Davis Center (1250 W Broadway, Minneapolis) during the April School Board meeting on Tuesday the 15th. Please help us spread this event info far and wide. All educators, families, and community members who want to stand in solidarity are welcome to attend!

Please read this message from the group of parents and staff who interrupted the Minneapolis School Board meeting last Tuesday (video of the action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42RFN_t9cJQ ):

The Minneapolis Public School Board has missed a clear deadline for joining families and staff against the cuts to special education recently made at the directive of district staff. On Tuesday, March 25th, Board members Greta Callahan, Abdul Abdi, Joyner Emerick and Collin Beachy were presented with a pledge that called on them to refuse to pass a budget with cuts to student-facing special education staff and to demand the reinstatement of the 100+ special educator positions that were cut for the 2025-2026 school year. Board members were asked to sign the pledge by Friday, March 28th, and although all have failed to do so, families and staff will persist in the fight to protect our students’ care, education, and civil rights. We continue to invite the School Board to join us.

Today in 1980: After US supreme Court rules that the US illegally seized the Black Hills in 1887 and offers $106 million, the Lakota refuse the payment in order to demand the return of the land from the United States.
