We promote academic research, education and public awareness of the Holocaust and other genocides.

The CHGS was established in 1997 by Dr. Stephen Feinstein as an interdisciplinary center for scholars, students, educators and artists to share knowledge and gain understanding of the Holocaust, genocide and other forms of mass violence. CHGS reaches a broad audience through innovative programming, including lectures, conferences, workshops and our comprehensive website.

Applications for our special summer workshop, "Teaching Contentious Narratives: Lessons from Spain" are due next week Saturday.

This week-long workshop in Barcelona will examine the contentious memory politics around Spain's Francoist era, and will feature a combination of site visits, expert lectures, and conversations to better understand how to teach in an era of rising far-right authoritarianism.

Due to a generous grant and supplemental funding from the Center, we're able to offer this workshop at a minimal cost to educators.

Yesterday we had the honor of welcoming Carl Wilkens to the Center! 🙏

Carl met with a visiting Mantorville High School group to talk about human rights, moral courage, and the power of individual action. Later in the day, he also spoke with a group of educators, leading powerful conversations.

Thank you, Carl, for spending the day with us and inspiring both students and teachers alike. 🌍✨
