The Department of Mechanical Engineering is proud to announce that Professor Peter Bruggeman and Dr. Jae Hyun (Jae) Nam, together with Hummingbird Scientific, have received a Microscopy Today Innovation Award for the co-design of the Operando Plasma Transmission Electron Microscopy Sample Holder, an in-situ TEM platform that enables real-time, nanometer-scale imaging of materials as they react in atmospheric-pressure plasma.

Presented by the Microscopy Society of America, the award recognizes ten organizations or individuals each year who have launched or published innovations in microscopy or microanalysis.

The work at the University of Minnesota was led by Dr. Jae Hyun Nam, a former PhD student in Bruggeman's group who is now a postdoc at Northwestern University.
