"What's with the lemon?" I get this all the time and and there are multiple rationales. Today I'll let you in on one of them...
I've made it a point of asking for and learning the correct pronunciation of people's names because it is important to their identity and shows my respect for them as human beings.
To try to help others feel more confident in pronouncing my last name (pronounced like Zest), I serve up all sorts of citrus fruit as visual clues...like lemon zest.
The takeaway here is that we can all put in the effort to learn the correct pronunciation of the names of others and support others in learning ours. We are better when working together!
