Beloved David. It is my favorite hour of my favorite day of the year, our wedding anniversary. It’s hard to believe you are even more handsome than you were that day, and not hard to believe that I love you infinitely more than the moment I confidently promised, “I do, with all that I am.”

Being Very Married sometimes means just being together and knowing that’s enough.

That’s what Husband and I have been up to lately, hanging out, really talking, dreaming, laughing, cooking, me annihilating him in Scrabble…

Being quarantined reminded us of the need to slow down and appreciate each other for what we each bring to our marriage. I looked forward to visiting him with something to drink in the middle of the workday, or to leave him with a quick kiss. I cherished the days when we both worked at home and I actually cried a little when he told me he had to return to the office for work.

I think I had been so busy investing in the marriages of other couples through and - something that will never change - that I forgot how to just be a wife, a puppy mother and a friend. I forgot how to balance it all.

So I’ve been MIA (Married Incredibly Awesomely) for awhile, just focusing on being very married and knowing that has always been enough. See you soon for some practical marriage tips and timely reminders. XO. S.

Nelson was head coach at Blaine and later Minnetonka, leading each program for 18 seasons and making a combined six championship game appearances. Now, he says, it’s time to spend more time with his wife.
