We'd like to introduce you to Paul! With experience as a writer, teacher, and tutor, he joined Reading Corps last year to pass his expertise on to children who are beginning to read and build skills in literacy.

On what motivated him to join Reading Corps as a tutor, Paul explains, "I felt a growing desire to serve my local community and country, and this program seemed like a meaningful way to share my interest in reading and literacy with others." We are so excited to welcome Paul back to the Reading Corps team and can't wait to see what kind of impact he makes for students in Wisconsin.

As to what his future might bring, Paul says he is considering putting his Segal AmeriCorps Education Award towards a new career path in reading and literacy. Thank you for all that you do to make your students stronger, Paul!

On this , we'd like to introduce you to Cheri! Working across several industries over the course of her professional career, a common thread has been her eagerness to help others. After retiring from her role as a paraprofessional at a charter school, she turned to Reading Corps to continue giving back to students in her community of Jerome, Idaho.

Cheri says it is a privilege to serve children in her community and enjoys watching her impact extend even further. One of her proudest moments, she shares, was when a student gained the confidence to read in front of her entire class. Watching the child become such a successful reader made Cheri realize just how impactful her tutoring efforts are!

We're looking forward to having Cheri back for a fourth year this fall, where she will continue helping students build the literacy skills they need to excel in school. Thank you for all the lives you continue to change through your role as a tutor, Cheri!

We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Schurz Elementary in Watertown, Wisconsin, this school year! A champion of our mission to help students become proficient readers by the 3rd grade, the team will be kicking off another incredible year of impact this fall. Since 2023, Reading Tutor Kathy has served 57 students over the course of 6,313 tutoring sessions!

Our gratitude goes out to Kathy, who has been helping students succeed since our inaugural year of partnership. She's supported by Schurz Elementary's Kari Dean, whose love of teaching fuels her work. "Kari has a passion for education, commitment to our community, and an unprecedented ability to guide students, colleagues, and parents for over 30 years!" Kathy says.

Thank you to every educator and community member who has been part of these important milestones at Schurz Elementary!

For this , we're spotlighting Melvin, who is entering his third term as a Reading Tutor this upcoming school year! A graduate of California State University in Fresno, he chose to serve with Reading Corps to gain experience in education, something he is interested in pursuing down the line.

Melvin says his favorite part of service is developing relationships with his students and colleagues. It also brings him joy to see the progress his students are making in real time, especially when he is able to help a student graduate from the program.

Thank you for your continued commitment to helping children develop into strong, confident readers, Melvin! We can't wait to see you back soon for another year of impact!
