Happy Spring Break! ๐ŸŒฑ

We're celebrating by avoiding the terrible stench of ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ญ๐˜ถ๐˜ด ๐˜ฌ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฏ๐˜ซ๐˜ข๐˜ค, blooming now in the greenhouse. ๐Ÿ’ฉ

It's a relative of the giant co**se flower (๐˜ˆ. ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ฎ) and to us, its fly-pollinated blooms smells worse! ๐Ÿชฐ

This tropical aroid is native to Yunnan province in China, but grown all over the world for its edible corm. This is used to make konjac jelly snacks, Japanese shirataki noodles, and other gluten-free products. ๐Ÿœ

It's like our own orchid show here in the campus greenhouse! Fortunately First Friday is coming up this week, on February 6, so you'll be able to enjoy the many blooms.

The Greenhouse grows an appreciation for and deeper understanding of the plants of our planet. Our schedule of First Friday events allows you to visit our plant collection in person. On the first Friday of each month, the greenhouse on the rooftop of the Hagfors Center will open its doors to the campus community from noon to 3pm.

It's First Friday on November 7, and the spectacular orchid ๐˜๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ข ๐˜ด๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ข is in bloom. Endemic to Mindanao in the Philippines, this rare orchid grows epiphytically on the trunks of dipterocarp trees. It is endangered because of habitat loss and over-collecting

The Augsburg University Greenhouse grows an appreciation for and deeper understanding of the plants of our planet. Our schedule of First Friday events allows you to visit our plant collection in person.
