A storm, a fallen oak, and one sculptor with a chainsaw. That’s how the Lake of the Isles Pencil got its start.
This past Saturday was the 5th annual sharpening, and thousands showed up. Curtis Ingvoldstad (BA Art ’01) carved the pencil in 2022, but his path to becoming an artist wound through engineering school, architecture, and a decade in video production before he finally leaned in.
The UMN feature on his story is a great read.

What a night.
Thank you to everyone who came out on March 28 for the joint opening reception of else|where|else and FURTHERWOVEN. The energy in the building was incredible, and it meant so much to see such strong support for our students and their work.
else|where|else fills the Katherine E. Nash Gallery with the thesis work of graduating MFA candidates Aja Bond, Kayla J. Fryer, Mai Tran, and J Youngwood. Large-scale paintings, immersive prints, and installations that have to be seen in person.
FURTHERWOVEN in the Quarter Gallery brings together sculpture, painting, photography, and video from ten first and second-year MFA candidates exploring land, water, and human experience through a wide range of practices.
If you weren’t able to make the reception, both shows are still on view. else|where|else runs through April 11 and FURTHERWOVEN through May 9. Come down to Regis and see what our students have been making.
