REAL TALK: student behaviors & classroom management are more challenging than ever before…

During my hardest year of teaching, I decided to create a targeted approach to address specific behaviors as a whole group & it was a LIFESAVER!

Don’t get me wrong, there were still hard days... but this system encouraged positive change, provided my students with tangible positive reinforcement, & promoted teamwork as our class worked towards a common goal.

On the anchor chart, I wrote down the behaviors I wanted to see more often.

So I changed...
- ā€œdistracting othersā€ into → ā€œstaying on-taskā€
- ā€œarguing & fightingā€ into → ā€œkeeping small problems, smallā€
- ā€œtalking backā€ into → ā€œbeing respectfulā€
- ā€œblurtingā€ into → ā€œlistening to the speakerā€

When we all worked together and followed these expectations, we got a smiley face in one of the circles.

As a class, we evaluated ourselves 2-3x a day to see if we earned smiley faces in any of the four categories.

When all of the circles were filled, we had a class party / whole group reward.

When I implemented this system, I saw more…
- teamwork
- honest self reflection
- kids offering support to each other to reach our goal

If you want to save your sanity too, comment ā€œclassroom managementā€ below & I will DM you the link directly, but you must be following me in order for my message to go through šŸ˜ŠšŸ«¶šŸ¼Otherwise it will be stuck in your ā€œrequestsā€ folder in your messages!

THIS is exactly what you need to survive ā€œspring feverā€ & end the school year strong šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼

Seriously, these are the best books I have purchased for my classroom! They have been worth every single penny!

Plus, I can give nonverbal redirections by simply pointing to them on display in my classroom! It is actually sanity-saving šŸ˜‚šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

Comment ā€œbehavior managementā€ below to get these read alouds for your classroom too!
