May is Mental Health Awareness month, which is the perfect time to remember that mental health is health.

As the science of understanding the brain has advanced, so, too, has our concept of mental health. Anyone who has done even the most rudimentary trauma, stress, or neuroscience training has learned about the intricate and still largely unclear connections between brain and body. Everything in the human body is connected, and mental health is inseparable from physical health.

And all of our interventions are effective because of how they impact our clients’ neurobiology. Psychodynamic interventions work in part because they utilize attachment biology and regulate neural structures.

Cognitive interventions work because they help to rebuild neural networks within the brain. Somatic interventions work because they directly engage the biological systems responsible for emotional experiences.

Let us celebrate all of the incredible methods we use to foster health in our clients. And, viewing their challenges through this lens ultimately leads to destigmatization.

I'd like to share a couple of resources in the neurobiopsychology space, both of which have been very helpful to me.

➡️ Please share your favorite neurobiopsychological resource in the comments
