The Playground Kids

This was the first “Playground Kid”…before Wendy even knew there were going to be “Playground Kids”. She was exploring during the 2018 . She had never drawn faces before. She posted it and for the next few days, posted a new face each day. People began to comment, and they wanted to see more. She decided to continue these posts for the remainder of the 100 days, pushing herself to improve her technique with each new image. Check back tomorrow to watch her process unfold!

Yesterday morning on my walk I met someone lovely who’s doing something amazing. In 2020, founded and she’s working hard to keep the beaches of San Diego clean.

Every Sunday she brings community members, businesses and organizations together to collect recyclables, and the best part is…she uses the money she collects from recycling to buy books to give to kids FREE! So far she’s spearheaded the collection of over 5000 lbs of recyclables! How cool is that?!

I was so moved by what she was doing, I came back and donated some copies of “Be Nice. The End. Simple Wisdom of the Playground Kids” to her book cart!

Today is National Read Across America Day. It’s a day to celebrate reading and engaging with children to make reading a more fun and interactive experience.

When we created our book, “Be Nice. The End. Simple Wisdom of the Playground Kids”, our goal was to have a book that would be enjoyed by multiple generations…a book that would find it’s home on your coffee table and open up all sorts of wonderful discussions. It can be enjoyed on so many levels.
