This is what gives us hope!
This weekend, we celebrated the graduation of 52 home care workers who are building a new vision for the future of care work.
For the past decade, members of the Pilipino Workers Center of Southern California (PWC) have been creating a model that allows workers, in the words of Executive Director Aquilina Soriano Versoza, “not just to fight, but to build.”
Amidst organizing for better conditions, these workers came together to form a worker cooperative, a business owned and managed by the workers themselves. After years of persistence, they've proven that the model works!
Now, alongside a powerful group of community organizations and national partners, they’re spreading this model across Los Angeles (an economy larger than most states) with sights set on the rest of California.
Central to this vision is ongoing training and education, and we’ve had the unique honor of coordinating the Academy that launched this 10-week program, equipping home care workers with vocational training, cooperative business knowledge, and movement education to thrive both as workers and leaders.
Deep gratitude to the incredible team of partners who made this possible:
The Democracy at Work Institute, Pilipino Workers Center, CHIRLA, United Domestic Workers, California Domestic Workers Coalition, National Domestic Workers Alliance, The ICA Group, Ventures with Purpose, and more.
We're excited to work alongside these leaders, supporting the growth of this model and building a culture of ongoing learning and transformation.
Looking forward to sharing more victories and lessons learned.

Most trainings fade fast.
Not because your content isn’t good, but because your learners are already on info overload.
If you want your training to stick, you need more than content–you need a methodology.
That’s where our SEA Method comes in. It stands for Show, Engage, Ask.
🟦 Show, Don’t Tell
Turn content into a story learners can see and feel.
Why? Emotions boost memory.
🟨 Engage, Don’t Present
Get learners doing.
Why? Participation keeps energy and retention high.
🟩 Ask, Don’t Explain
Let learners make meaning first.
Why? Adults learn best when they connect content to their own lives.
📄 Free Worksheet:
We just updated our SEA Method planning tool with 5,850 possible activity combinations—for any subject.

When we build trainings around the content we want to share, we miss what matters most: the learner's reality.
Start with a learner profile to understand their goals, challenges, and what will help them apply what they learn.
We created a simple tool to help you get started.
