I can't think of a single person in the fly fishing industry that gives back more than . Becca has dedicated her entire life to conservation. Becca has been struggling with Stage 4 Cancer Breast cancer that has metastasized to her liver and skull, and just diagnosed with incurable jugular foramen syndrome, JFS, which refers to paralysis of five of the cranial nerves.
Becca is the founder of the "Becca Sue Klein All Kids Fish" events with the Chatahoochee River Keeper and Orvis. She is also founder of Reeling in Serenity, a nonprofit offering free fly fishing workshops to individuals who are in treatment or recovery from substance abuse. Becca has also been working with me as a founding board member of . Becca has given her entire life to nonprofits, conservation efforts and to fly fishing. Becca could really use the communities help!
The cancer is destroying her skull floor and in turn impacting the nerves coming out of her brain – specifically the ones that manage her right side. Part of this also includes weakness in her right arm, which is a new symptom. This is especially discouraging giving her love of fly fishing, so she will be looking to therapy at Turning Point Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Center in Marietta.
She's having issues swallowing and talking. Becca was told there’s no cure for this, but if they can get the tumor to shrink it will not fix the issue, just prevent any further damage. A feeding tube is an option if she can’t eat.
Becca needs financial help to get a short term place close to the hospital as she goes through the radiation December 18 - 22nd. The immediate use of funds but not including future bills are:
- $1,000 hospital bill for upcoming treatment.
- $1,000 rides and meals for week of treatment.
- $2,000 - 20 sessions of massage therapy for her right side at Turning Point Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Center (they don’t take insurance).
- $5,000 - 2024 health insurance deductible for continued cancer treatment.
Becca is the least selfish person I have ever met and she needs our help! Please consider giving what you can. The GoFundMe link is 📸 Look at this post on Facebook https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-becca-get-to-treatments/.

Casting long leaders can be challenging. Here are a few tips to help with any frustration.
* Delay Your Rotation (Bending of Your Wrist) - A delayed rotation allows for a longer acceleration phase, it removes the slack line from the cast and gives a deeper, more controlled load/flex of the rod.
* Stop Your Rod - You must stop the rod crisply and completely at the end of each casting stroke on both the forward and back casts.
Pay special attention to accelerating, delaying your rotation and stopping your back cast crisply in an upward direction. Your forward cast will improve dramatically.

Consider using a longer dry fly leader. Most proficient technical dry fly anglers are known to add additional tippet to their standard 9' leader or purchase a longer, small-diameter tapered leader. These long leaders are imperative for fishing flat water in fisheries such as Silver Creek, Missouri River, Henry's Fork, New Zealand, spring creeks, and tailwaters.
Some of the long, small-diameter, leader benefits include:
* Longer leaders are usually smaller in diameter; therefore they land softer.
*Your fly will be presented with a more natural drift.
*Long leaders allow you to be further from your targeted fish.
Remember your first cast is the most important so take your time and make it a good one!

A "seam" is any spot where two currents converge. Many times the break in current is due to an object or structure deflecting the current. Obstruction examples are rocks, trees, islands, point of land, sandbars, etc.
Why fish seams? Think primary lies. A primary lie is a holding area that offers oxygenated water, protection from predators, readily available food and a break in the current.
To save energy fish hang in areas called current seams, which gives them a break in the current (expelling the least amount of energy) but provides the most amount of food. If you are unsure of where to fish, fish the seams.
