The People's History Project is a grass roots oral-history movement, presenting stories and perspectives from the extraordinary lives of ordinary people.
The People's History Project is a community education resource. We conduct various creative writing courses throughout the year, in prose and verse with the intent of capturing the personal narrative that is the essence of every person's story. Through our community writing and outreach programs we teach the art of rediscovering the past by framing it in narrative, engaging in a deliberate reflect
ion on the objects and special tokens that we have carried with us throughout our lives. By telling our stories with those artifacts, whether it be a diploma on a wall, a drawing stuck to the refrigerator with a magnet, or the blanket you held onto as a child that still has a place somewhere in your closet. The People's History Project has the primary mission of telling the stories and sharing the insights of the folks in our neighborhood, believing that memoir and verse, art and storytelling, when practiced as a community, gives us the opportunity to share our truth and be reconciled with it. Story telling is a mode of healing. Through our community education programs we teach the skills that are required to self publish across the full swathe of social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Blogger, WordPress, YouTube, Vimeo...Podcasting, Video Blogging and small media production. In addition to these platforms we also offer courses on how to be a self-published, independent author and provide assistance with publishing on e-book platforms like Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Ingram Spark, Google Books, IBooks, Kobo and other aggregators. This includes ISBN management, and establishing accounts with print on demand services offered by Amazon and Ingram, along with audio book consultations. The People's History Project believes that everyone has a story to be told, and that everyone's story should be preserved. Which is why we have made it our mission to do just that. Whether we are on the street doing interviews, capturing stories on film at a food and music event, or whether we are providing people with the tools and coaching to shape their own narrative and present it to the world. We believe that the stories of the people are the stories of the community we share, we are all in relationship to one another. In this way my story is yours and your story is mine, and unless we tell them we will never have the chance of discovering who we truly are.
