HCMC is looking for additional volunteers to interact with children and their parents at the Teddy Bear Clinic. It is a fun opportunity to volunteer alongside other students, residents, and fellows.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email [email protected] (faster response time) or [email protected].

There will be 12 stations: triage, dental health, nutrition, car seat safety, nebulizers, pharmacy, poison control, exams, x-rays/CTs, stitches, IVs, casting, ambulance and fire truck, and Bernie the dog. It will be a blast!

Pediatric Skills Night Sign-Up!

What: Pediatric Skills Night
When: March 25th, 6:00-8:30pm
Where: Moos 1-450 (dinner) and IERC
Why: Learn more about the pediatric history and physical exam and practice your skills.

Space is limited to the FIRST 18 students to sign up. You will get a confirmation email from PIG ([email protected]) if you are one of the first 18 people, so sign up early!

The Pediatric Interest Group is hosting Pediatric Skills Night on Friday, March 25th from 6:00-8:30pm in the IERC! This is a chance for MS1s and MS2s to learn about and expand their skills in caring for pediatric patients. We will provide dinner (Chipotle) for all participants and volunteers at 6pm in Moos 1-450 before getting started in the IERC at 6:30.

Volunteer kids, accompanied by a parent, will be patient models for you (in a group of 2-3) to interview and you'll get the chance to do a focused, non-invasive exam. There will be 3 rotations with 30 minutes at each case (~20 minute interview/exam and 10 minute discussion). A pediatrician or pediatric resident will be with each group of medical students to answer questions and help teach the proper techniques of working with a pediatric patient. TOMORROW - Burrito Loco for lunch with PIG!

PIG is excited to be hosting a lunch lecture with Dr. Ilene Moore, a general pediatrician and medical director at Southside Community Health Services, on Wednesday, February 10th.

Location: Mayo 3-125
Time: 12:15-1:15pm
FOOD: Burrito Loco!

Dr. Moore will be discussing VACCINATION advocacy in her practice, including how to deal with patients and families who are resistant to vaccination, have delayed immunization status, or experience a vaccine adverse event. She will also address the particular challenges and rewards of URBAN PEDIATRICS and share a story or two about being a pediatrician before and after kids!

The Pediatric Interest Group is very excited to host Dr. Nancy Harper from the UMN Masonic Children's Hospital who will be presenting on the topic of, What is CAP (Child Abuse Pediatrics)?

Come learn about this new, growing field and the issues that CAP physicians grapple with on a daily basis. Mesa Pizza will be served! Find us in Moos 2-690 TODAY from 12:15-1:15pm.

Still interested in pediatrics? Want to learn more about neonatology? Mark your calendars for the last Pediatric Interest Group (PIG) lunch lecture of the semester taking place one week from today!

Dr. Anne Hall, a neonatologist at the University of Minnesota, will be giving a talk titled, "Regional Effects of Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) on the developing brain: short term adaptations and long term consequences." She will also discuss career paths within neonatology and answer any questions you may have.

Join us on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10th from 12:15-1:15pm in MOOS 2-530. Potbelly sandwiches will be served (there should be enough for everyone who comes)!
