On June 4, 1972, an all-white jury in San Jose, California, acquitted Angela Davis of all charges, which included first-degree murder, kidnapping, and criminal conspiracy. The landmark verdict followed a 13-week trial.❤️🖤💚

Ida B Wells was born into slavery in Holly Springs in 1862. She was freed under the Emancipation Proclamation when union troops captured Holly Springs. She was one of the first investigative journalist. She was an anti-lynching crusader,
who published a pamphlet in 1892 titled Southern Horrors which detailed her findings. Her reporting highlighted the stories of lynching victims that challenged white authority or were able to successfully compete with whites in business or politics. She worked for women suffrage and she was a civil rights leader. Ms Wells was a founding member of the NAACP in 1909. She was a fearless advocate for equality. Ms Ida B Wells died in 1931. Happy Birthday Betty Shabazz, who was born May 28, 1934. She was an educator and civil rights leader who was married to Malcolm X.

The Little Rock Nine were a group of 9 Black students who bravely integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in Sept 1957. The governor of Arkansas sent the national guard to block the students from coming into the school. President Dwight Eisenhower nationalized the Arkansas National guard and then had them protect the 9 students as they entered the school. Ernest Green, one of the 9 courageous students graduated from Central High School on May 27, 1958.❤️🖤💚

Memorial Day was founded by newly freed Blacks in 1865. On May 1, the formerly enslaved and Black Union troops in Charleston, South Carolina, organized a massive parade and memorial service to honor fallen Union soldiers, giving them a proper burial. A crowd of 10,000 people, largely made up of freedmen, gathered at the site. The procession was led by 2,800 Black children carrying flowers, followed by regiments of Black Union troops including the 54th Massachusetts Infantry. ❤️🖤💚

Jackie "Moms" Mabley, was born in 1897. She was a stand-up comedian and actress. She was a pioneer in the "Chitlin' Circuit" of Black vaudeville performance spaces. She began her career on the theater stage in the 1920s. Moms Mabley died a May 23, 1975 at 78. ❤️🖤💚
