Kindness Month Bracelet Fundraiser to Support the Louisa Animal Shelter~
Handmade bracelets by LCMS students, featuring a variety of green and gold designs, will be available for purchase during lunch shifts this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for $2 each! There are also special pink bracelets that would be perfect for the pink-out football game on Friday! Money made during this sale will be donated to the Louisa County Animal Shelter! Students can buy some bracelets to show school spirit while helping animals!

School Picture Retake Day: Thursday, October 15th~
To order school pictures, log in to your account on mylifetouch.com or create an account using your student's student ID number and Picture Day ID: EVT9TMRKK.

Fall pictures are included in our annual yearbook, so students who did not have their picture taken are encouraged to participate in the makeup picture day on Thursday, October 15th. Students who ordered pictures will also have the opportunity to have their picture retaken that day. Students must bring the picture order or proof on retake day to have a retake.

Hometown Homecoming Parade: Thursday, October 15th~
We hope to see our Bobcats at the Hometown Homecoming Parade in Mineral on Thursday, October 15th! Look for the LCMS Float shining with Bobcat Pride!

LCMS Student Showcase: Friday, October 16th~
Would you like a glimpse into your child’s school day? Would you like to see firsthand what they have been working on so far this school year? Would you like to see their writings, creations, and evidence of their learning and progress?

We hope to see you on Friday, October 16th for our LCMS Student Showcase! Families are invited to visit our school from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the LCHS Varsity football game in the Jungle, which kicks off at 7:30. Families can enjoy dinner at the tailgate beside the middle school from 5:30 to 6:30. Students will be showcasing their learning, progress, creativity, and successes so far this school year. Families are invited to visit each of their child’s classrooms and teachers, as well as other areas in our school, such as our library, and students who have their Showcase Card punched will receive a student ticket to the football game! Mark your calendar to visit LCMS on Friday, October 16th from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. for the Student Showcase!

Student Incentives:

Students will be amazed and captivated by the breathtaking stunts and jaw-dropping skills these performers showcase. This team will bring both a ¼ Pipe Ramp and Full Box Ramp along with three professional BMX stunt riders for this adrenaline-packed 40-minute, in-school event. Once again, students will attend the BMX show if their supporters donate at least $50 by October 15th. Thank you for supporting our school with our fundraiser!

Socktober~
Socktober is underway, and LCMS is now collecting socks, hats, gloves, scarves, and other winter clothing items to give to those in need in our community. All donated items MUST be new and can be placed in grade level hallway bins in the cafeterias. Socktober will run through the entire month of October.

LCMS PTA Boo-Grams Available Online Now and During Lunches on October 20th and 22nd~
Send a spook-tacular surprise! Boo Grams are the perfect way to spread cheer to friends, classmates, and school staff! An informational night will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the LCMS Forum for 8th graders and parents interested in learning more about the Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School. Seventh grade families are welcome to attend to get a jump start for their 8th grade year.

The Blue Ridge Virginia Governor’s School (BRVGS) is an academic year governor’s school that provides a challenging and differentiated program of studies in core academic subjects, emphasizing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program utilizes interactive video technology, field trips, and team coaching to create a regional community of learners from the counties of Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Madison, and Orange. Methods of instruction and learning aided by technology will aim to put the student in control of their learning and education. Inspired by and honoring our facility dog, Boomer, Bella’s Buddies, and the incredible Dog Squad teams that bring our halls so much joy and comfort each day, we are dedicating this year's festivities to our favorite four-legged friends.

Every student and staff member will have the opportunity to receive their very own dog ear headband! Whether someone wants to go all-out with face paint and a full pup ensemble or simply pop on their ears over everyday clothes, everyone can easily be part of the pack.

How to Get Involved:
-Let your 4th teacher know that you would like a complimentary dog ear headband to wear on Friday, October 30th to instantly join the pack.

-Add your favorite dog-themed outfit if you'd like to take it to the next level.

Help us celebrate the comfort and positivity our facility dog, Boomer, brings to our school community every day.

*If they choose, students may each receive a free dog-ear headband, which they will receive in homeroom class on Thursday, October 29th.

Were excited to be back in action of all that FFA has to offer especially after a couple years of limited or streamlined events. Monday, October 5th will be a B Day.

Scholastic Book Fair: October 5th-9th~
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our library from Monday, October 5th to Friday, October 9th! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore new books and grow their love of reading. Students will visit the fair with their Social Studies classes on scheduled days. The fair will also be open each morning at 7:45 and during lunch for students who are ready to make purchases. (Please note: Students may browse during class visits, but should bring money if they wish to buy books before school or at lunch.) We hope you will encourage your child to participate and discover some great new reads.

English Benchmark Test on Wednesday, October 7th~
Bobcats will take the English benchmark test on Wednesday, October 7th. We will have an alternate bell schedule, which will slightly impact lunch shift times. It is always important for students to bring their fully charged Chromebooks to school, and it will be especially important on Wednesday for the English benchmark test!

Emergency Procedure Reviews~
As we continue to practice our emergency procedures, we will have a Lockdown drill this week.

October is Kindness Month~
October is Kindness Month, and we are celebrating our new initiative “Connected By !” here at LCPS! We will be spreading kindness together throughout the month of October.

On Thursday, October 1st, students and staff will wear a new LCPS Kindness shirt to kick off Kindness Month!

After School Dance: Friday, October 2nd~
We will have our last after school dance of the fall season this Friday, October 2nd until 5:30. Permission forms must be turned in by the end of 4th period on Thursday, October 1st. Registrations will not be accepted on the day of the dance. The $10 fee will include admission to the dance and one student admission to the LCHS Varsity home football game in the Jungle! Students will receive the ticket when they exit the dance on Friday evening.

Pizza, soda, water, chips, and candy will be available for purchase during the dance!

Parents/guardians will pick up students *beginning* at 5:30, at the cafeteria entrance of LCMS, accessed from the side parking lot.

(This is a change from last year! The side lot is open again for parking, but spaces are limited. If you plan to attend the football game after pickup, park in the main front lot and walk around to the side cafeteria entrance for dance pickup.)

*Early pickups are difficult because students are still dancing!

All school rules apply at the dance. Students are expected to dance appropriately and dress according to the dress code. Cell phones must remain in backpacks and not be used during the dance. We look forward to another great dance on Friday and cheering on our Lions in the Jungle!

This team will bring both a ¼ Pipe Ramp and Full Box Ramp along with three professional BMX stunt riders for this exciting 40 minute, in-school event. These riders have been featured on the Dew Tour and ESPN X Games. Our fundraiser ends on Thursday, October 15th.

Community Service Day: Monday, October 12th~
LCMS students and staff will participate in a community service activity on Monday, October 12th, to give back to our community. For this community service project, we will be working together to clean up the campus. This is an excellent opportunity for students to be involved in a service project that benefits our community.

Patriot’s Pen Writing Contest~
The Patriot’s Pen Writing Contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay in response to the theme “What A Veteran Taught Me About America.” Students interested in participating must submit their essay with a completed 2026-2027 entry form to their local participating VFW Post. Applications must be turned in by midnight on October 31st.

The National Civics Bee®!~
The Louisa County Chamber of Commerce and Louisa Forward Foundation are partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation to host a nonpartisan civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. Participating 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes! Finalists who advance to the national competition will compete for prizes worth more than $100,000.

How it Works
1. Prepare your application.
Read the Essay Application Guide. Think about your idea and draft your four short answers. Aim for 150–200 words for each response.

2. Apply online.
When applications open, create your account and type your answers into the online form.

3. Submit by the deadline.
Submit your essay application online by February 2, 2027.

4. Advance through live competitions.
Top-scoring essay finalists may be invited to compete in Regional Bees and State Finals. State winners advance to the National Championship.

Of the responses submitted, 20 students will be selected for the next step of the competition, which will be a live quiz event on April 22, 2027, in the Alan Jackson Theatre at Louisa County High School. The top three finalists at the local competition will advance to the state competition, which will be held sometime between May and August 2027. From there, the winner will advance to the National competition in Washington, D.C.

All LCMS students who submit an essay will be invited to a pizza party during WIN Block in February to celebrate the accomplishment of civic engagement!

LCMS Yearbooks~
Yearbooks for the 2026-2027 school year are now available to purchase! You can order online, or students can bring cash or a check (made payable to LCMS). The price is currently $38. Students can see Ms. Dallas Ventre in room 901 with any questions.

Looking Ahead:
After School Dance: Friday, October 2nd~
Our last after school dance of the fall season will take place on Friday, October 2nd until 5:30! Permission forms will be distributed the week prior. The $10 fee will include admission to the dance and one student admission to the LCHS Varsity home football game in the Jungle! We are excited to have another opportunity for some social time with our Bobcats, followed by cheering on our Lions in the Jungle!

LCMS Student Showcase: Friday, October 16th~
Mark your calendar for Friday, October 16th for our LCMS Student Showcase! Families are invited to visit our school from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the LCHS Varsity football game in the Jungle, which kicks off at 7:30. Families can enjoy dinner at the tailgate in front of the middle school from 5:30 to 6:30. Students will be showcasing their learning, progress, creativity, and successes so far this school year. Families are invited to visit each of their child’s classrooms and teachers, as well as other areas in our school, such as our library. Students who have their Showcase Card punched will receive a student ticket to the football game!

Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School~
An informational night will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the LCMS Forum for 8th graders and parents interested in learning more about the Blue Ridge Virginia Governor's School. Seventh grade families are welcome to attend to get a jump start for their 8th grade year.

The Blue Ridge Virginia Governor’s School (BRVGS) is an academic year governor’s school that provides a challenging and differentiated program of studies in core academic subjects, emphasizing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program utilizes interactive video technology, field trips, and team coaching to create a regional community of learners from the counties of Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Madison, and Orange. Methods of instruction and learning aided by technology will aim to put the student in control of their learning and education.
