Marine Corps Spartan Race Weekend

On June 22, 2024, at Citi Field in Queens, NY, Marine Corps Officer Selection Garden City executed an activation during the Spartan Race Weekend. This marks the third year of partnership between the Marine Corps and Spartan Race, emphasizing shared values of endurance, grit, and strength.

**Event Highlights:**
- Marines and participants shared common characteristics through festival challenges, awards presentations, and a dedicated Marine 5k Sprint Race.
- The course featured 20 obstacles, including sandbag carries, climbing, and barbed wire crawls.
- Nearly 50 participants joined Marines in the race, fostering camaraderie and warrior culture.

“The Spartan Race is more than an obstacle course; it’s a lifestyle. It pushes people out of their comfort zones, promoting growth and discipline—core values of the Marine Corps.”

Today Shane O’Brien and Konrad Mlynarcayk began their journey of trying to become a commissioned officer in the
United States Marine Corps. O’Brien graduated from Yale University and Mlynarcayk graduate from SUNY Geneseo testing on posting the social media. I just wanna make sure are you by the way they will be evaluated to determine if they will have the opportunity to attend Marine Corps Officer Candidates School in September 2024.

Why did you choose the Naval Academy?
"I wanted to take a new direction in my life and contribute myself towards a greater purpose, and I felt that the best way to do so was to come to the Naval Academy and be a part of the N150s."
Favorite N150 Memory?
"It's hard for me to pick a specific memory because I have so many favorite ones that are either too specific to share or inappropriate. However, I will say that I am always looking forward to spending time with my teammates in any way shape, or form. The daily grind is our team's bread and butter and I love being able to do that with this group of people."

"Aaron 'Cookie' Xing started his collegiate rowing career at Trinity, but immediately transferred to Navy upon hearing about the array of sweet treats available in King Hall. Aaron's training style consists of mind-numbingly long steady state paired with world record front squats, all fueled by a combination of mango fruit juice, dino chicken nuggets, and various cookies. Also an avid runner, his shoe collection would rival that of most professional marathoners.
'Kilometers Day' Xing has a trademark style of Tracksmith clothes and flannel shirts, and can be spotted by his neatly cut and gelled Lego hairdo. Aaron has also had a recent affinity for country music.

gunnery_sergeant_zhao TRANSFORMATION // In 2012, Rodrick Rumble became Idaho State University's all-time leader in receiving yards. In 2013, he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent. Three years later, he's serving as a First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps Reserve.
When asked , he said: "Growing up in Oak Harbor, Washington, a military town, and with my dad being a
20-year veteran, was very familiar with the military and felt called to serve. While I planned on enlisting out of high school, I was blessed with success in high school sports, particularly tootball, which led me to collegiate and professional opportunities. In my journey through college and sports, I learned how to work in teams and how to draw the best out of the people around me. I found that real success in life is falling in love with the process of achieving your goals and pushing others to do the same. Becoming a Marine Corps officer is the biggest honor l've achieved in my young life. I'm looking forward to continuously learning and embracing opportunities to lead America's finest men and women."
