One of my favorite precepts to begin the discussion with children about the power of their thoughts, and the importance of critical thinking. What we believe, true or imagined, becomes our reality. If not able to rein our negative thinking, we believe it to be true, and we run with it; therefore, we react and rule our actions according to our perceptions. Critical thinking is an essential skill in a developing mind as it allows self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking.

Interesting way to take power away from verbal and emotional bullies. Resilience: A skill all children need to acquire at an early age; hard to teach when children are accustomed to be dominated by their emotions. Talk to children about their feelings... help them process their uncomfortable emotions and teach them the skills to "make it through" them.
