🌹✨ Before Summer: Just Grass. Now? A Rose Wonderland, Thanks to Renee! ✨🌹

At the start of summer, this little patch in our backyard was nothing but grass. Then, Renee—who is nothing short of amazing—had a vision, and with a touch of magic and nearly 150 rose bushes later, we now have our very own blooming paradise! 🌹🌿 I didn’t even know roses could grow this fast! Look at it now—a riot of color and life! And nestled up in the tree is one of our five cozy squirrel nests—because even the squirrels couldn’t resist moving in! 🐿️🌳🌸

What a remarkable piece of spiritual history! This calligraphy, written in Japan in the early 1960’s by Bishop Zuikan Kodachi, represents his lifetime of practice and dedication to the teachings of Nichiren Buddhism.

The phrase “Namu Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo” (南無妙法蓮華経) was deeply significant for him because it embodies the heart of the Lotus Sutra—a timeless message of wisdom, courage, and enlightenment.

It was his gift to me to mark our memorable visit to the Oregon State Capitol and the new friend he found during his journey to America.

Bishop Kanzen Kodachi gave me what was most important in the world to him—a gift of kindness, compassion, and love—because he wanted to help me. It’s a beautiful thing when one human, rooted deeply in his own culture, shares his greatest treasure to uplift another. His appreciation shone through in every stroke, a timeless testament to our shared humanity.

For over six decades, this beautiful mantra has graced my home, a reminder that every individual has the potential for awakening their innate wisdom, compassion and higher self.
