At the View Acres garden, lessons about ecology come to life!
Recently, our fifth graders dove into a hands-on game that brought the concept of a food web to life. As they connected plants, animals, and energy in the ecosystem, you could see the “aha” moments start to click.
Afterward, they got their hands in the soil—planting carrots and exploring the garden beds!
We’ve all been there—lumbering into a Friday morning, just trying to survive the final stretch before the weekend. But at View Acres Elementary, Ms. Rumohr has found a way to trade those morning yawns for high-octane energy.
Every Friday, students and staff are greeted by a raucous hallway dance party the moment they step through the door. "It’s controlled chaos at best," Ms. Rumohr laughs, "but it really gets us going for the day."
The music-filled hallway becomes an open dance floor for everyone. While there’s still no official consensus on who holds the title of "Best Dancer in School," there is certainly no shortage of creative moves on display. When it comes to the playlist, Ms. Rumohr stays true to the hits, affirming that "the classics are best."
This weekly tradition gets the heart pumping and shakes off morning grogginess, priming the brain to engage with the day’s learning through positive social connection. It’s more than just a party—it’s an upbeat reason to say, "TGIF!"

The beat was booming this morning as we welcomed the Kingsmen Thunder Drum Line! Their powerful performance aimed to inspire the next generation of percussionists.
This award-winning group competes locally and nationally, and is open to middle and high schools students in our district! 🥁

This Monday was off to a great start! During today’s assembly, students were presented with their Gratitude Awards, and the fifth graders, who have been working hard practicing the recorder, had the opportunity to perform “Jingle Bells” for the whole school! Way to go, everyone!

Last year, View Acres students planted fresh veggies in our community garden... and today they got to try soup made from their harvest after reading the book Stone Soup!🥦🥕🥔

🚑 The Vikings had some special guests today, local EMTs! Students got an up-close look inside the ambulance and asked great questions about how EMTs respond when someone needs help. This hands-on experience is part of the Health & Wellness unit on safety, and a great way to learn from real community heroes. 💙

Not only is it the first full day for grades 1-5, it's also the first of our 3 kindergarten gradual entry days...it was so much fun to welcome these fabulous 5-6 year olds this morning! All of our kindergartners start together on September 8th!
