We’re proud to announce Rock Creek Middle School's Vocal Music teacher Sarah Strobel has been awarded the 2025 Emerging Conductor Award by the Oregon American Choral Directors Association Oregon ACDA. This prestigious award honors educators in their first 3-5 years of teaching who demonstrate exemplary leadership in the field and in the classroom. Congratulations Sarah!

As part of our district's ongoing efforts to improve safety and communication, NCSD is implementing Vocera communication devices throughout every district school and department. These hands-free, voice-activated devices allow staff to communicate instantly with one another from anywhere inside the building using existing district Wifi. If passed, the NCSD Proposed Capital Bond Measure 3-639 would expand this instant communication to anywhere on campus by adding outdoor Wifi networks. More information about the proposed projects at each school can be found in the comments.

What brought every 11th grader from two different NCSD high schools to the same auditorium today? The entire junior classes from both Clackamas High School and Nelson High were captivated by an amazing one-man performance of “Thurgood,” the inspiring story of the first African-American to sit on the United States Supreme Court. Huge thanks to Portland Playhouse for bringing the show to ANHS, which follows Justice Thurgood Marshall’s early days as a civil rights lawyer all the way to his appointment to the highest court in the land.

It’s pretty special when an entire senior living community supports our students. Thanks to Milwaukie’s Willamette View for supporting NCSD’s Adult Transition Program. ATP serves the community transition needs of students aged 18-21 who have graduated with a non-standard diploma. Some graduates utilize ATP services while attending college courses or working in paid employment, like the ambitious students featured below. Interested in becoming an employment partner? As another school year kicks off, so do NCSD’s high school athletic teams…and it’s extra special when two of our district schools serve up against each other!

Last night, Milwaukie High School hosted Rex Putnam in our first intradistrict volleyball matchup of the year! During the JV match, the Mustangs were victorious. For the varsity match, the Kingsmen got the crosstown win. Here’s to memorable seasons for all of our fall athletes! 🏐

Alder Creek Middle School principal Chris Silvas sure knew how to keep students occu-pied during a recent assembly! Panther students who earned PAWS-itive tickets during the first 3 days of school for being kind, safe, responsible, and respectful earned a chance to “pie the principal” at the first assembly. As you can see, everyone had a great time…except for maybe Mr. Silvas

As home to one of our district’s Spanish Dual Language Immersion programs, Milwaukie El Puente Elementary School students and staff took great pride in hosting a special bilingual assembly this morning to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. Every student proudly waved handmade flags from Latin American countries and listened to a student presentation detailing the multicultural history behind the next 30 days.
