It's almost Autism Acceptance Month, and here is a very helpful graphic about all the AAC sales coming up that is compiled by Lauren Enders Gonzales, MA, CCC - SLP. We love using Pictello to create social narratives, schedules, and if/then regulation visuals. Choiceworks is our favorite visual schedule app. There are many here to consider!

Today we thank our veterans for their service and remember those who aren't with us anymore. We thank our lead SLP, Lana, for her service, and appreciate our veterans by providing a free comprehensive evaluation to veteran families all year round.

I know we've been quiet here, but it's time for Autism Acceptance Month App Sales!

We find technology to be incredibly helpful for enhancing communication, in both how autistic children and adults communicate with the world, but also how caregivers and educators communicate with autistic individuals.

For example, instead of explaining the rules to a game, take pictures and/or a short videos of what each step looks like with Choice Works, and go through the sequence together. Adding visuals to communication is always a powerful support.

One of our families recently went to a Sky is the Limit event, at the PDX airport that is organized by the Autism Society of Oregon. This is an amazing event where children are introduced to the airport and may even get a chance to hang out on a plane, to help them become more familiar with what to expect when flying. They organize many other events, and have numerous tools on their website. Check them out!
