No matter what grade you're in, math can be a challenge, but our students are rising to it!

Fourth graders are mastering fractions, breaking down problems step by step and building confidence with every solution. Meanwhile, fifth graders are learning how to calculate volume!

Students at Bilquist have been busy working toward their Eco-Schools badges, taking part in projects focused on fish stewardship, pollinator gardens, and maintaining schoolyard habitats.

Our 2nd and 4th graders participated in the Fish Eggs to Fry program, where they had the unique opportunity to learn about salmon through hands-on experiences. Each class hatched and raised 200 Chinook salmon before releasing them into the Clackamas River. Along the way, students learned about the salmon life cycle, anatomy, local watersheds, ecosystems, water quality, and the role salmon play as a keystone species. They also explored how our actions affect the environment. As part of the project, students tried their hand at Gyotaku—a traditional Japanese fish printing technique that fishermen once used to document their catches.

To share what they learned, our 2nd graders created a bulletin board teaching the school about the salmon life cycle, with fun facts about each stage. Meanwhile, our 4th graders took their environmental work a step further by designing and planting a pollinator garden. They added over 50 native plants to the Bilquist Community Garden!

We’re proud of our students for their dedication toward building a better future for our planet.
