She’s Gotta Have It: A Conversation with DeWanda Wise
A Black Lens alumnus (How to Tell You’re a Do*****ag), DeWanda Wise is one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood after her critically acclaimed turn as Nola Darling in the Netflix adaptation of Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It. UWM associate professor Portia Cobb will moderate an intimate conversation with Wise about the show, her role, and broader issues concerning representations of Black female sexuality and subjectivity in popular culture.

A Panel discussion on black cultural identity and representation moderated by commentator and journalist Touré and featuring filmmaker Carrie Hawks and New York Times cultural editor Aisha Harris. The Department of Psychology is hosting an event featuring Iluta Lace this Friday.

Iluta Lace is the director of Marta Centre in Riga, Latvia. Marta Centre is a non-governmental organization that aims to provide support to women in Latvia: non-citizens and migrants, unemployed women and those from low-income backgrounds, and female victims of human trafficking and domestic violence.

Her talk will be Friday, Oct 5 at 1:00 pm in Cramer Hall Room 326.
