We love developing future leaders! But, quite honestly, most organizations we work with struggle in this area. The same types of people always get chosen for the same opportunities. So the question is: If you were to get promoted, would there be a void in your organization that you left behind?
We all know that the best leaders are those who can lead themselves while also developing future leaders.
So, let us ask you this: Are you a *great* leader or the *other* leader?
Leveling up is an intentional process for developing future leaders in your organization. It’s giving people opportunities to step outside their comfort zone and learn how to be leaders and be engaged and impactful in your organization in new and exciting ways.
Here are 5 steps to help you Level Up your organization:
1. Develop a survey or use your organization-wide meetings to understand ways you could have a major impact by creating leadership opportunities. This could be through major or minor projects.
2. Use your leadership team to prioritize the most important areas you want to focus on, given the available resources. This could be through your established leadership team, or you could draw in additional people to participate. Watch out for selection bias (choosing people just like you.) Intentionally be a little random in choosing people. Get people outside their comfort zone and provide them with opportunities to shine.
3. Assign individuals to lead those projects. They may be people just like you, or they may not be like you, but give them opportunities to step outside their comfort zone and stretch themselves.
4. Set a due date. When are these things going to be accomplished? And take it a step further by ensuring you set regular intervals to check in with these new leaders. Ideally, these meetings would take place weekly. Ensure people have what they need to succeed and are on track.
5. Make sure to rotate opportunities. Set small projects where someone could try something out for a few months or a year. Then, rotate them into a different area of responsibility. It gives those people a better understanding of the organization and an opportunity to round out their skills.
Share how someone helped you level up as a leader in the comments so we can help inspire each other forward.

“I have so much to do! How do I get it all done?”
This is an everyday stress we constantly hear from entrepreneurs and business owners. Maybe you can relate.
You work long hours but don't feel like you're accomplishing enough—or anything.
The first step to addressing this overwhelm is identifying what type of tasks you’re struggling to accomplish. Once you do that, you can identify the best action plan to address them.
There are three different types of plans that all tasks fall into:
1. Tally Plan (AKA traditional to-do list) ✅
Tasks that fall on your tally plan, or to-do list, are all the one-off tasks that must be completed.
The thing that separates these tasks is that they are unrelated to one another. If you do one, it doesn’t necessarily help you get a different one done. If you don’t do one, it doesn’t stop you from finishing a different one.
Learning to identify that tasks are part of your tally plan allows you to create a plan for getting them done. For most people, the best way to attack a to-do list is to do the easiest task first. This allows you to gain momentum.
In fact, many people like to put something on their list that they’ve already accomplished just so they can cross it off and feel the satisfaction and experience the positive reinforcement that comes with it.
2. Targets 🎯
These tasks are for when you’re trying to hit a certain goal but it’s possible to go above it. Sales are one of the most common examples of a targeted plan. You have the sales number you want to hit but can exceed the target.
The best way to attack a target is to learn the behaviors that will move the needle forward and consistently do them. In sales, you must get up, make the calls, and follow up with your leads repeatedly.
The people who are consistent with creating the right intentional habits are the ones that end up being successful.
3. Projects 📊
Projects are anything made up of different pieces and parts that all relate to each other. If one of the tasks isn’t completed, the whole project isn’t finished. Each thing is dependent upon the other to be completed. And once all of them are completed, it’s over. Unlike a target, there is no way to go over and above a project.
Identifying tasks that are part of a project helps you see their role and what order they need to be completed so you can work towards completing the project as a whole.
Tallys, targets, and projects are very different types of plans, but everything you want to get done will fit into one of those three plan buckets.
We all do a combination of these things every day. Knowing how you address and attack each one will help you learn how to accomplish them.
What's your biggest struggle with your to-do list?

Maintaining a work-life balance is a struggle for many entrepreneurs and business owners. But while many people say finding work-life balance is one of their goals, many don’t really know what they mean by it.
Business owners are constantly juggling too many tasks at once, trying to keep all the balls in the air. But what often ends up happening is they end up focused on trying to keep up with work tasks while their personal life is put on the back burner.
So if you’re trying to create a work-life balance, we encourage you to start by asking yourself this question:
Are you being intentional about the time with people you say are the most important to you?
Are you putting those relationships first and then adding other tasks around them? Or are you just reacting to the things in life and business as they come to you?
Do you find yourself working long hours but not getting any time with the people you say are the most important to you?
We’re at the start of another new year. Take some time to think about who you should be spending time with and where you should focus your time for the year.
Be intentional about prioritizing the people you say are the most important in your life. Then, you’ll begin to find the work-life balance you want.

I don’t have enough time to lead. My team is disengaged. I have resources all over the place. And everyone is so misaligned. Do you feel this struggle as a leader?
The answer you’re looking for is found in 15-minute meetings. By holding weekly 15-minute meetings with each of your direct reports, you can make sure everyone on your team is engaged, aligned, and has the resources they need to be successful.
So how do you do it?
1. Make sure all your direct reports have 3-4 goals aligned with the business mission that they are responsible for as an individual
2. Every week, they need to pick 6 tasks that are aligned to those goals.
3. Sit down in a meeting, one-on-one, either in person, over the phone, or virtually. You’ll say nothing as the leader while your direct report shares the six things they had planned to do last week, at least three successes, and three things that didn’t get done (failures), and how they’re going to realign in those failures. Then, they’ll share their six new tasks for the week.
As a leader, you’re listening to hear if those six tasks are appropriate for the person’s goals and that the tasks are aligned with what’s happening in the company.
Once those six things are aligned and you know they have the resources they need to make progress, you can move on and start getting more things done.
What changes have you made to help meetings be more efficient in your organization?
