Saluting the Best for 41 Years! The purpose of the Black Excellence Awards is twofold.
First and foremost, Black Excellence is a scholarship fundraiser to honor area youth who are on target as academic achievers. Since its inception in 1986, The Milwaukee Times through its Louvenia Johnson Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $500,000 to deserving African American college-bound students from Milwaukee area high schools. 40 years ago The Black Excellence Awards handed out the first ever Louvenia Johnson Scholarships. This year we honor 12 bright and talented students. They will receive their scholarships the evening of Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Bear Center.
