The Black Excellence Awards/Louvenia Johnson Scholarship Fund Saluting the Best for 41 Years! The purpose of the Black Excellence Awards is twofold.

First and foremost, Black Excellence is a scholarship fundraiser to honor area youth who are on target as academic achievers. Since its inception in 1986, The Milwaukee Times through its Louvenia Johnson Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $500,000 to deserving African American college-bound students from Milwaukee area high schools. In addition, we use this occasion to recognize the outstandin

g achievements and contributions local African Americans have made to the fabric of our society. We honor community leaders, professionals and public servants for the time, energy, creativity and commitment they have given to improve the lives of scores of Milwaukeeans.
