Congratulations to Ariel Minakawa (Quinn)!!
During Black History Month, MCTS remembers Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin, and civil rights pioneers who fought for equitable transit. Standing up for transit equity continues to be important for MCTS as we strive to make progress toward the county’s equity goals and vision to be the healthiest county in Wisconsin.
Every year around Rosa Parks’ birthday — February 4, which is also called — MCTS announces the Rosa Parks Tribute Scholarship essay contest. The following three students were chosen to each receive a $1,000 scholarship towards their higher education:
· Geordynn Nappier – Brown Deer High School
· Ariel Minakawa (Quinn) – Ronald Reagan College Preparatory School
· Jacqueline Juarez-Lucas – Riverside University High School

The Conference Realignment Committee of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) is proposing to move Reagan out of the Milwaukee City Conference and into the Southeast Conference (SEC) for all sports except football, beginning in Fall of 2026. The SEC is comprised of Racine and Kenosha public schools.
Milwaukee Public Schools has already expressed a number of concerns about the impact this would have on students and families and is appealing this proposal.
The voices of students and families play a vital role in the appeal. If you wish to share how this realignment would impact you and/or your family, please complete this short Reagan Family Survey by Friday, February 13th.

These opportunities are highly competitive and being selected as juniors speaks volumes about their work ethic, technical skills, and commitment to their futures. This is what real-world readiness looks like, students stepping into meaningful, high-demand careers before graduation.

Freedom Gobel, Class of 2019, returned to Reagan to empower students with a Know Your Rights lesson on the 4th Amendment and interacting with police—part of her ongoing work visiting local high schools to educate and advocate.
She earned a Full Diploma, was in the first Global Politics cohort, scored a 6 on the exam, and contributed to the Husky Howler. Today, Freedom is a 3rd-year law student at Georgetown University, a Law Clerk with SEIU, President of the Women of Color Collective, Senior Symposium Editor for The Georgetown Law Journal, and Communications Chair for the Abolition Advocacy Project.
We’re proud to see her giving back and leading with purpose.

In celebration of Lyn’s retirement, we are proud to announce that Reagan’s main office has been officially renamed the Lyn Smith Main Office. 💙
This entire week has been dedicated to Lyn, a woman who has supported generations of staff, students, and alumni since the Town of Lake days. Her kindness, dedication, and heart shaped Reagan more than words can say.
We’re going to miss you so much, Lyn. Thank you for everything. 🥺🙏🏼
