Today is Day Two of the Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) Week of Action!

Through The Leadership Undercommons, UBUNTU is standing with the people doing the work. This day holds space for trans safety, trans grief, and trans leadership. It brings our community together to speak truth, build care, and protect each other.

Join us for Trans Day of Remembrance and the TDoR Celebration Week of Action
November 19 – 21, 2025

We gather to honor our trans family taken by violence and neglect.
We gather to stand with the living.
We gather to build a world where trans people breathe easy, move freely, and live long lives filled with joy.

UBUNTU’s nonprofit arm, , is proud to support this work and this community.

Our commitment is simple: we show up, we remember, we protect, we build.

Ever wonder what’s really in the air you breathe every day?

MKE FreshAir Collective’s 2024 Air Quality Report, created in partnership with Data You Can Use, dives into air quality data from 21 neighborhood sensors across Milwaukee. See how your area compares to the city average and how air quality shifts with the seasons.

It doesn’t stop there, your voice matters! Help shape next year’s report with community feedback.

Read the report and take the short survey by October 31, 2025, for a chance to win a $10 gift card!

What keeps us safe and who gets to decide?

Wisconsin is finalizing a five year plan for injury and violence prevention. Too many of these plans are written without the people who carry the weight of the harm. At UBUNTU we know safety is not real unless it comes from the wisdom of those most impacted.
This is a chance to shift the process:

• Lived expertise must stand beside professional data.

• Community priorities must be named with honesty and care.

• Prevention must be rooted in healing, not in numbers alone.

The draft is on the table. Your voice is what makes it whole.
Sign up for an October virtual session to share your feedback. One hour to shape the next five years.

Today at the Next Gen Summit with the Pincus Family Foundation, our Founder & Chief Strategist dr. monique liston led the room in Building the Undercommons of Change: Courage, Grief, and Collective Liberation.

Inspired by Where the Wild Things Are, everyone claimed their crown of big feelings, because every emotion has a place in the work of transformation!

The future we seek begins in what we build now. Every act that centers care, every structure we reimagine, becomes evidence that another way has always been within reach.

Quote:

“Abolition is not absence, it is presence. What the world will become already exists in fragments and pieces, experiments and possibilities. So those who feel in their gut deep anxiety that abolition means knock it all down, scorch the earth and start something new, let that go. Abolition is building the future from the present, in all of the ways we can.”

Information has always been shaped to serve power. What we read and hear is never neutral, and without care we inherit the bias of those who control the story. Our task is to look deeper, to question the frame, and to remember who pays the cost when lies are treated as truth.

Quote:

“If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”
