Rarely do we have space to speak about death and dying.
Escuela Verde students have been participating in a workshop where they've been reading and talking about death from many angles this quarter. Their final product is to facilitate a space for others in our broader community to have this opportunity.

What makes this person stand out?
Monica facilitates an engaging, robust, and rigorous food-based educational program at our school and public café. She is able to draw out strengths in students that might not otherwise be actualized. She creates a space for students who love to cook and also inspires other students to develop a love for cooking.
How have they made a positive difference in their school community?
Monica is regularly in the kitchen with 5-15 students, all of them completing individual tasks that create a whole dish/meal. It's a beautiful representation of our community's goal of interdependence.
What inspires you most about this person?
She fills a space that no one else could fill and takes it farther than anyone could imagine. She is a true one-of-a-kind gem!
