๐ Say hello to our peer mentors for 2026-27!
Launched in 2024 by the Office of Student Affairs as part of the First Year Success Initiative, this program pairs incoming dental students with D3 & D4 mentors to help ease the adjustment to dental school life, foster a sense of belonging and offer guidance during a time of change. Together, peer mentors and mentees help create a more inclusive, connected and welcoming environment, strengthening the MUSoD community for everyone.
Incoming D1s have until August 20th to select their preferred mentors (form sent via MU email). Get to know our mentors here: https://tr.ee/MUSoD-PeerMentors

Marquette University School of Dentistry mourns the loss of esteemed alumnus Dr. Henry Takei, Dent โ65, who died July 29 at the age of 88.
Shortly after graduation, Dr. Takei returned to his hometown of Los Angeles and joined the faculty at UCLA School of Dentistry, where he devoted nearly 60 years to periodontal education. Among his hundreds of publications and lectures, Dr. Takei served as co-editor of Carranza's Clinical Periodontology, one of the specialty's seminal textbooks.
Dr. Takei remained involved with Marquette Dental School as a generous donor and served on the National Campaign Committee to secure funding for the new School of Dentistry construction. His name is commemorated on a plaque in the school's atrium. In 2001, he was awarded Marquette's Distinguished Alumnus in Dentistry, the school's highest alumni honor.
Please remember Henry, his family and friends in prayer.

Dr. Elsbeth Kalenderian, dean of the Marquette University School of Dentistry, and I were grateful for the opportunity to meet with the Wisconsin Dental Association Board of Trustees.
We value Marquette University's long-term relationship with the WDA and its 3,100+ members, who mentor and support our students and serve as faculty in the state's only dental school. The WDA's philanthropic and legislative support is critically important, as the school's faculty, staff and students provide 111,000 annual visits to patients from 66 of Wisconsin's 72 counties and deliver the Jesuit value of cura personalis every day.
