Get excited for new beginnings!
Carmen Middle and High School of Science and Technology: Northwest Campus to join historic Harambee neighborhood in 2026-2027.
Carmen Northwest remains open and fully committed to our students and families. We have selected a new campus location in the historic Harambee community, the former HOPE High School building at 3215 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. This collaboration with Open Sky Education ensures long-term stability and continued opportunities for our school. We recognize this change may bring questions, and we are committed to sharing information directly with families first while continuing to lead with empathy, transparency, and care.

We’re lucky to witness growth, leadership, and
community in action! of you, Faith!
The ABHM Book Club has been meeting consistently since 2020, and every year we invite our Jr Griots (high school interns and docents) to help lead a discussion on a young person’s version of an important book.
Here is what our Jr Griot, Faith, had to say about our November 2025 selection, One Person, No Vote:
“To me this book is informational, touching on topics and problems from the past that we still struggle with to the present day. The authors made sure to [discuss] things such as unfair voting suppression… not holding voting polls open for a good amount of time, adding unnecessary questions not aligning with anything about the voting…
…The authors Carol Anderson and Tonya Bolden included personal stories, giving us a primary source that supports the book. Personal stories allows us readers to get a first hand story of what’s going on and how it’s actually affecting the people. Sharing personal stories allows us readers to also gain an emotional connection to what we are reading, which is important and helpful for a deeper understanding. This read will stick with me.”
