Why does local journalism matter to you?

Local stories shape how we see and understand our communities, for everyday experiences to huge social issues. JAMS students journalists are committed and dedicated to telling these stories with honesty and creativity.

A JAMS major can lead you into alot of different directions.

Whether students are interested in journalism, advertising, media strategy, or social media, JAMS gives them a chance to build skills that connect to the real media world. It is not just about picking one career path right away, it is about learning how to write, create, plan, and understand how media reaches people.

For students who are still trying to figure out where they fit, JAMS is a place to explore those options and start building experience.

In JAMS 336, students were asked to turn an activist statement into a visual message that could really grab attention and make people think. Randy Robles created this poster to question how โ€œcleanโ€ and โ€œfreshโ€ food is marketed, especially when consumers may not always see what is behind the image.

This project shows how JAMS students use graphic design and visual storytelling to talk about everyday issues and turn them into messages that can reach a real audience.
