The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is the specialty society of emergency medicine. A physician's primary duty is to the patient.

The integrity of this doctor-patient relationship requires that emergency physicians control their own practices free of outside interference. We aspire to a future in which all patients have access to board certified emergency physicians. The Principles

1. The ideal practice situation in emergency medicine affords each physician an equitable ownership stake in the practice. Such ownership entail

What makes a proposal stand out from hundreds of others?

It's not just the topic—it's how you describe it.

A strong lecture description should:
✔ Capture attention immediately
✔ Highlight a meaningful knowledge gap
✔ Explain why the topic matters
✔ Show exactly what attendees will learn

When reviewers have dozens—or even hundreds—of submissions to evaluate, a clear and compelling description can make all the difference. What's the best conference session title you've ever seen?

✨ Reminder, there are NO deadline extensions this year. Submit your proposal by July 8 at 10:59pm CT! www.aaem.org/aaem27/education/speaking-proposals/

Violence should never be considered part of the job. Yet emergency physicians and hospital staff regularly face threats, intimidation, and physical assault while caring for patients.

That's why AAEM supports the SAVE Healthcare Workers Act. Protecting the people who provide care is essential to maintaining safe, effective hospitals and ensuring physicians can focus on what matters most: their patients.

AAEM's advocacy delivered results at the AMA House of Delegates. From advancing federal action on the Corporate Practice of Medicine, to protecting physician autonomy, addressing workplace violence, and taking on harmful private equity practices, these victories represent meaningful progress for physicians and patients.

🚨 A topic can be clinically important, evidence-based, and fascinating — and still get declined if it feels too specialized for most emergency physicians.

Reviewers are asking: How relevant is this to everyday emergency medicine practice?

Topics like complications in ECMO or neonatal single-ventricle physiology may be excellent — but they may not connect with a broad community EM audience. Try reframing niche expertise into practical ED questions: How do I give this patient the best chance of surviving cardiac arrest? How do I manage this blue baby?

The strongest proposals help most emergency physicians leave with something they can use tomorrow.

Broad relevance first. Depth second.
