MACDOWELL FUN RUN
Our very first Fun Run was a success! We had 82 students register and we raised $1515 in pledges. It was a beautiful day to complete a series of 11 challenges including the Floor is Lava, tug of war, axe throwing, freeze dance, bottle flipping, hula hoop pass and more. Thank you to everyone who came and completed the challenges and to all the volunteers who made it such a successful event. DJ Jayson was amazing! And thanks to mother nature for giving us perfect weather!

Girl Scouts Earth Day Cleanup! On Saturday May 2nd, we had scouts from all four troops at MacDowell participate in our annual Earth Day Cleanup. They painted rocks for the garden, cleaned up litter on the playground and green spaces, and helped to clear debris from the garden bed to prepare them for spring planting.

MacDowell Spotlight:
7th and 8th grade students, in Mr. Schwarten’s Visual Arts class, conducted an investigation into the identity of Place. This led to a fi nal sculpture creating a diorama with a specifi c identity of place. They planned for the persons inhabiting the space, a mission and vibe, helping them build and design the details for an authentic place.

This month, support staff (Ms. Jacobson and Ms. Walsh) finished facilitating the last unit of the Not a Number (NAN) Human Trafficking Prevention Curriculum with 7th/8th grade middle school students. Each middle school advisory received 6 weeks of lessons using this curriculum. NAN is an interactive child traffi cking and exploitation prevention curriculum designed to provide youth with information and skills in a manner that inspires them to make safe choices. Youth learn to identify and utilize healthy support systems that may decrease their vulnerabilities. Love 146 is the organization that created NAN, and they have a website that includes a number of resources for students, as well as caregivers, to help support safety and prevent traffi cking situations. Check out this website to get tips for caregivers in keeping youth safe, or simply to learn more about this topic:

MacDowell SPOTLIGHT! On Thursday, March 26, middle and high school students performed in our first-ever Cabaret Night! Students auditioned with musical material they had prepared on their own. There were vocal solos, original choreographed dance pieces, rapping, an ORIGINAL SONG, small band performances, a metal guitar solo, and a cello solo. We had a great crowd and great performances! Bravo to all the students that performed!
