Saturday was a gorgeous day for a field trip to Waukesha Co Airport with Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy!

Our partnership with New Beginnings Aviation Ministry gives students firsthand exposure to careers in aerospace and aviation! This time they met 19 year old Juan, who is only a few training hours away from his solo flight on the pathway to earning his pilot’s license!

Yesterday was EPIC! A group of our 11th and 12th graders had a chance to tour the Epic campus and learn about Epic Careers as a culminating activity with Diverse Leaders of Tomorrow, a group of UW-Madison students who have provided mentorship and leadership sessions to our students throughout the year. The company’s creativity and connectedness was apparent in their physical space and we enjoyed learning more about what drives their amazing work culture!

🪩Visionary like Barack Obama and Phenomenal like Maya Angelou—it’s been so fun celebrating our ICONIC teachers this week! On Thursday we enjoyed “Yes We Can-dy” Bars and a pizza party and Friday we started off the day with rainbow sprinkle donuts. 🍩

Students delivered cards and a gift—“Still l Rise”, our school poem—along with many hugs and smiles!

Our ICONIC teachers are TENACIOUS like Michael Jordan and TALENTED like Aretha Franklin so we celebrated with a Slam Dunk Snack Cart on Tuesday and R-E-S-P-E-C-Tea and coffee on Wednesday!

Wow! What an amazing way to spend our Monday! Our students had the opportunity to learn about aerospace careers with Dr. Charles Allen, a Tuskegee Airman, at Waukesha Co Airport. He showcased how many roles it takes at an airport in order for a pilot to fly safely—from the engineers, to air traffic controllers, to the grounds crew (they were even battling a groundhog infestation during our visit!). Our trip also included an exclusive tour of a $800,000 private plane!

Lunch ‘N Learn experiences give our students unique exposure to possible pathways for their future. Dr. Allen will also be running an after school flight school for our students next year!

Today students at MX and Dr. Howard Fuller Collegiate Academy had a chance to celebrate at two great community events!

Students met Mayor Cavalier Johnson and heard his proclamation making today Veolia Ecofactory Day. We also participated in with Your Move MKE Inc. to clear garbage from neighborhood streets and storm drains. We challenge everyone to do their part in keeping our city beautiful and don’t litter! 🗑️
