We are extraordinarily excited to wish you a happy (first annual!) National Women's Colleges & Universities Day!
"American women’s colleges were founded more than 250 years ago in the face of deep-seated discrimination against educating women. These institutions cast open the doors to access and opportunity for women’s education, changing the face of this nation and the world for the better, and the 30 remaining women’s colleges and universities in the U.S. continue that trailblazing tradition of serving women, especially those from underserved communities." The Intro to Visual Arts class visited the exhibition Women Rights are Human Rights: International Posters on Gender-Based Inequality, Violence and Discrimination at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in preparation for their upcoming project where they will create an art zine on a social issue they care about. The exhibition helped them see ways text and image worked together to engage and inform. Women’s Rights are Human Rights exhibit showcases a powerful collection of international women’s rights and advocacy posters that highlight the ongoing struggle for gender equality. Created by artists and designers of all genders, the posters appeal to the collective responsibility to protect human rights, challenge gender stereotypes, and advance women’s rights. Women’s Rights are Human Rights is on view in MIAD’s Brooks Stevens Gallery until March 8, 2025.

This past Friday we had around 60 students attend the first class night of the Alverno College Girls' Academy of Science & Mathematics. This is a photo of the statistics course where students worked on becoming familiar with descriptive statistics. This is the first time being back on campus with the program since the pandemic. Online Girls Academy was good, but nothing beats an in-person experience with science.
