I never had the opportunity to visit Colombia as a child, or to learn much about the rich Afro-Colombian history and culture that is too often overlooked in our schools. My daughter, Nkozia, is helping change that.

Through her company, the United Association of Muurs, and its partnership with Sadiki Educational Safari Inc., she made it possible for a group of children from Washington, D.C., to experience Colombia and learn about the African descendants whose history, culture, and contributions are deeply woven into the country’s identity.

Words cannot fully express how much I admire you, Nkozia. I wanted to share this because people should know how much you do to educate, uplift, and create opportunities for the next generation. I love you beyond words, and I could not be more proud of the woman you have become.

Let me share some numbers that hit me this week.
