Well dear friends, it’s time to hang up our hats and while this won’t come as a surprise to some, the Door County Sled Dogs board of directors have voted to officially retire.
It’s been a adventurously worthy 16 year run with so much outpouring of love - allowing so many good good dogs, volunteers, sponsors, donors, adopters, and friends to make such great things happen - impacting hundreds if not thousands of dogs and community members.
Furthermore, the last of the DC sled dogs are seniors (as are their humans😉) and/or are special needs and all the sled dogs have been personally adopted by their handlers. It’s what they know, it’s who they love.
We will sincerely miss everyone but genuinely need the time to work on health issues and quality of life for all. We hope you understand.
All remaining assets of the organization have been donated to other non-profit organizations to continue to help the many rescue dogs still in need.
We will always be eternally grateful for everyone’s help & support. We will be closing down our website and PayPal donation site, allowing our fantastically big hearted donors off the hook… Our gratitude knows no bounds and will continue to be lifelong.
We do hope & pray you will all care for and continue to support the many rescue dogs still in need with other worthy organizations. It makes such a difference!
We love every one of you and will always carry each of you (and your own fur babies) in our hearts, thoughts, prayers, and very souls.
Farewell dear friends, you have always been and are the VERY best in the universe!
💖💖💖

Happy Sunday morning friends from Friendly! It is currently 27° here in North Central Florida and this guy still loves nothing more than “trolling” around in the water… We call him the doglligator🤣❤️. Such an uplifting sight! Such a good good dog!
Have a wonderful day everyone, you deserve it!

We couldn’t really bring the dogs beds with us to Florida so we left them behind for the other rescue dogs. A really super wonderful friend treated the 4 here to new beds and Magic was the first to snag one! She looks a little guilty but no worries because we’re singing “Magic’s got a brand new bed!” 🎶 🎵🎶
Note: These are Kirkland brand beds available only through Costco and they are great! Very reasonably priced and last very long time.

Yin Yang. A personal update:
After much heartache and illness, it finally appears that the 4 dogs residing with us (Awesome, Friendly, Magic, and BoBo) are relatively well. Not perfect, with some leg issues and allergies, but the best that we can hope for in an imperfect world. Finally a manageable amount of meds each day. Thank goodness!👏
Both Rick and I (without whining😉) are experiencing some health problems, needing to take care of them, and are cautiously optimistic. And of course are getting older. Aging sucks!🤣 We’re slowing down and that’s OK and really, after many hard working years, find ourselves discovering the need for a much more simpler life. It appears to be happening slowly but surely. The pups here are really enjoying this last part!
Chances are we will remain here in North Central Florida more permanently where the temps are the mildest of all with the dogs really even having loved (with such enthusiasm!) their past summer here. Who would’ve thought?
All of the other sled dogs/rescues in Wisconsin continue to run and have fun on a regular basis! Many of them are also aging with most 10 yrs. or older but still are thankfully in pretty good health.
They are really blessed. We are really blessed.
We did receive some beautiful cards - both holiday and condolence cards as well as some very special year-end help - genuinely making it possible to try and survive catching up with the dog’s overdue medical expenses. This last year sure did kick our butts!
And with that, we haven’t been able to be quite on top enough toward thanking each of you… but your love and generosity has so truly impacted our daily lives here in so many positive and meaningful ways and so please know that our gratitude knows no bounds. Your support has kept us going all along and for that we are and will always be eternally grateful.
Lastly, today we wish each of you a really great Sunday and most wonderful upcoming week! Love you!❤️❤️❤️

Adding to these truisms - And they’ll never know what you’ve (we’ve) been through… getting to where you could bring her home. And that’s okay…❤️❤️❤️
“What a Rescue Dog doesn’t know”
She’ll never know, you have only $19 in your checking account..
Or, that your car has 257,000 miles on it, and is held together with tape.
She doesn’t know your sneakers come from a discount store, or your worn clothes are 3 years old.
What she does know, is that her life changed, when you came into it..
Tonight, she’ll eat, and won’t go hungry or thirsty..
Tonight, she’ll curl up in a warm bed, out of the cold..
Tonight, she can sleep, and not feel the fear of being alone in the world.
Tonight, she’ll be tucked into her own bed, by a father who would give his own life to protect hers..
What this rescue dog will never know, is that she saved you, as much as you saved her…(BZ)

We are posting a lot about Magic❤️ but she is becoming such a great dog! The thing is, is that the longer she is with us, the more she follows us and never takes her eyes off of us… even when she’s laying with her back to us🤣. Gosh we love her💖💖💖.

And if you have more than 1 you’re never going to get past the 1st volume! We would know🤣.
