On March 5th, the Milwaukee School Of Languages Hope Squad attended the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)'s Action on the Square in Madison, WI.
Action on the Square is a budget advocacy day and Hope Squad students had the opportunity to gain skills to prepare and meet with state legislators at the capitol. Students asked for increased state funding for school-based mental health. Each Hope Squad member shared a personal story to build connection with their legislators and to demonstrate the need for increased funding. Other areas of focus for advocacy were to establish ongoing funding for 988, the Su***de Prevention Lifeline and to increase access to Community Support Programs.
