MSP student Marissa is spending the summer conducting social research on the freshwater shore of Laguna Bacalar in Mexico! Marissa shares, “Each week, our research team takes to the water and runs experiments to gain insight to the health and sustainability of Laguna Bacalar. My fieldwork purpose is to collect feedback from the Bacalar community through 1-1 interviews and a digital survey in order to understand the impact tourism and new infrastructure developments have on the community in the region. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the community here, improving my Spanish, and applying MSP evaluation techniques to this NSF research project.”

Earlier this month, MSP student Cynthia (third from the right) planned and facilitated a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the doors of the Umoja Community Center through her work with Nia Imani Family in MKE. This summer she is launching their Young Men’s Transformational Leadership Program!
