Last week was our annual Schola Cantorum Camp. This camp is an opportunity for our choristers to grow musically, spiritually, and as an ensemble. Participation deepened their understanding of and appreciation for the Church's liturgy as well as the important role music plays. Through rehearsals, classes, discussions, and worship experiences, choristers explored the meaning behind the structure of the service. Choristers prepared a challenging and rewarding repertoire that developed their vocal skills, musicianship, and confidence. Beyond rehearsals, choristers deepened relationships through shared meals and recreational activities such as a behind-the-scenes tour of the Milwaukee Public Library, Campus-Wide Scavenger Hunt, movie day, making pizzas from scratch, arts and crafts, and water games.

Camp is a supportive environment where prayer, faith, learning, and fellowship come together, equipping choristers to serve the church with excellence and enthusiasm. These meaningful memories strengthen both their musical abilities and their relationships with one another and with Christ.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, the end of slavery in the United States. We celebrate our freedom in Christ and pray for transformative peace, selfless unity, and a grace-filled love for all people.

Juneteenth honors June 19, 1865, the day Union soldiers announced and ensured the last of slavery was abolished by visiting Galveston, Texas and enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation. Even though more than two years had passed, many southern states had ignored the proclamation.

Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
