In January 2025, Dr. Lisa Sanchez-Johnsen, Ph.D., M.S., received the “2024 Hawaii Psychological Association Significant Professional Contribution Award” from the Hawaii Psychological Association. Dr. Sanchez-Johnsen is a Professor in the Institute for Health and Humanity, Departments of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Surgery, and Family and Community Health, and Associate Director for Workforce Engagement and Well-Being at the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center. Dr. Sanchez-Johnsen received this award for outstanding scholarly contributions and achievements in psychology.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Lisa Sanchez-Johnsen, or as she is known affectionately in our community, “Dr. Lisa”, on these outstanding awards for her contributions in the areas of behavioral health and health issues in the Hispanic/Latino community!
Dr. Lisa Sanchez-Johnsen splits her time between Wisconsin, Illinois, and Hawaii, where she is a Professor in the Institute for Health and Humanity, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Department of Surgery and Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is also the Associate Cancer Center Director for Workforce Engagement and Well-Being in the MCW Cancer Center and an MCW Cancer Center Research Scholar Endowed Chair. Dr. Sanchez-Johnsen is the Director of the LANI Research Program (Latino, Asian, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander) and the Multicultural Health, Obesity, and Cancer Health Equity Research Scholars Program, which are research, mentorship, and training programs for those interested in population health research on a national basis.
Dr. Sanchez-Johnsen is also a Board Member of the Hawaii Psychological Association, where she is the elected Diversity Representative and Chair of the Diversity and Equity Steering Committee. She is also a Board Member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hawaii. In addition, Dr. Sanchez-Johnsen is a Clinical Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Department of Psychiatry. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in Hawaii, Illinois, and Wisconsin and she specializes in behavioral medicine, obesity, and culture-based physical and behavioral health interventions for diverse groups.
