The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization that works to protect and expand voting rights, ensuring everyone is represented in our democracy. The LWV empowers voters as well as defends democracy through advocacy, education, and litigation, at the local, state, and national levels.
“LWV supports grassroots efforts to empower voters across the country. From expanding voter education to passing pro-voter laws, we raise our voices and use our influence to strengthen the freedom to vote and build a fairer democracy.”

Get to know one of CURTO's proud partnerships: The Milwaukee County Human Rights Commission. Our very own Dr. Robert S. Smith chairs the commission. The group consists of community leaders and residents, employees, and visitors to make Milwaukee more equitable by advising the county government of the proper procedures for preserving the equal rights of persons as guaranteed by the law. Meet Dr. Robert Smith! He is CURTO's director and a Marquette professor. His research and teaching interests include African American history, civil rights history, and exploring the intersections of race and law. Rob is the author of Black Liberation from Reconstruction to Black Lives Matter in the Debating American History Series, and Race, Labor & Civil Rights: Griggs v. Duke Power and the Struggle for Equal Employment Opportunity. Rob also serves on the Board of Curators for the Wisconsin Historical Society, is the Resident Historian for America’s Black Holocaust Museum, and is Chair of the Milwaukee County Human Rights Commission.
