Confidence, Fitness & Self-Defense Our Academy began when Yun Duk An, a two-time TangsooDo national champion from Hwang Kee's Moo Duk Kwan School in South Korea, gained the attention of Sang Kyu Shim to

aid in the hand-to-hand combat instruction of the ROK Marines and US 1st Cavalry Soldiers in South Korea after the Korean War. In 1968 Yun was sponsored by a US Military Veteran and persuaded by Shim, who had opened a martial art studio in Detroit, Michigan a few years earlier, to come to the US and instruct in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. After instructing in Manitowoc, Yun moved his academy to Milwaukee in 1970 and has been at the same location since 1971 on Milwaukee's South Side. In 1971 General Choi visited Yun's academy and hosted one of his many seminars. In 1995 Colonel Nam Tae Hi attended Yun's academy's 25th year anniversary and in 2002 attended Yun's 60th birthday celebration. Yun's academy has great ties to the early pioneers and fathers of TaekwonDo. Yun has been instructing in the USA for over 55 years allowing for several articles to be written on him and many of his blackbelts to open their own martial art studios. It is a testament to integrity that has kept D.A.Yun's Black Belt Academy as the oldest, continuously running TaekwonDo school in Wisconsin. Grandmaster Yun Duk An still instructs classes with help from his instructors to this day and strives to build a more peaceful world through the development of TaekwonDo.
