Summer classes are underway at Hefter. Monday, Master Gardeners taught us how to keep gardening late in life despite physical challenges and today, a room full of people were learning to "uke" from former Osher Director Kim Beck. What are you signed up for this summer?

Another amazing week at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UWM. It was Art week, leading up to our dynamic exhibition of Osher member art work, Osher's Got Art. On Monday, members created collages and oragami in a "make and take" class, and Tuesday, a group took an art studio tour of local legend Joe Stanke. Wedensday, there was a talk on how creativity contributes to emotional resilience, and one of our OLLI Scholars showed us the creativity of mathematics using graph theory. Learning has never been so fun!

We are heading home today! Our last day will be spent exploring Washington DC. Yesterday, we toured Arlington National Cemetery and witnessed the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Very emotional. We also visited the stunning Iwo Jima memorial and said goodbye to our wonderful bus driver, Malind, and our fabulous guide Cathy. The guides on this tour have been remarkable. They are all certified which requires years of study and testing. We have learned so much about each of our historic locations. We arrived in Washington DC today. We had an amazing four hour walking tour with local guide, Michele, of the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, WW II Memorial, FDR Memorial and the Korean War Memorial.
As we were leaving the Lincoln Memorial we met an Vietnam War Honor Flight vet from Oak Creek. His name was Jeff and we were honored to have a picture taken with him!

We had a GREAT day today! We toured Jamestown this morning and then traveled to Colonial Williamsburg.
The museum and the live actors of Jamestown portrayed a very resourceful and difficult life endured by the first settlers of America in the early 1600s. In Williamsburg, we watched skilled craftspeople demonstrating the trades and sharing stories of the 1700s. We laughed a lot and enjoyed learning together.
