This week at seminar we have Mitch Adam, a PhD candidate from Dr. Hyngstrom's lab! He'll be presenting on his work in gait training for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Join us on Thursday in SC 356 at noon!

This week at seminar we have two more PhD students presenting their current work with Dr. Kipp from the sports biomechanics lab! Wanda will be presenting on factors of Olympic weightlifting across different weight class categories. Emma will be screaming, crying, and THROWING up about angular momentum related to the shot put.

Dr. Streeter's lab was on the news earlier this week! Fox News highlighted her work and her $2.7M NIH grant to improve breathing for those with spinal cord injuries. The video also highlights Tony Sabel, a wheelchair athlete, who has been lending his life experience to research with Dr. Streeter's team.

This week we have Ben and Zeb presenting in seminar, both PhD students of the EXRS program. Zeb is a fourth year student in Dr. Pinto's lab, where he'll be presenting on his assessment of asymmetries in populations at risk for knee osteoarthritis. Ben is a second year with Dr. Capin's LAST Lab, presenting on youth sport specialization and understanding its longterm impact on health.

This week in seminar we welcome Dr. Alicen Whitaker-Hilbig! She joins us from the Medical College of Wisconsin where she is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research goals focus on stroke rehabilitation, emphasizing the physiologic role and clinical contributions of the vascular system in stroke rehabilitation and recovery.

This week for seminar we have Carlos Zepeda and Marta Colosio joining us from Dr. Chris Sundberg’s lab now over at UW-Madison in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology.

Marta is a post-doctoral fellow from Italy where she completed her PhD in translational medicine at the University of Milan working in the Human Integrative Physiology of Exercise laboratory. Her research focuses on neuromuscular function and fatigability, spanning from whole-body performance to single-fiber and mitochondrial mechanisms. Her current work looks at how aging and diabetes affect muscle health and mitochondrial efficiency.

Carlos is a PhD candidate in the Exercise Science and Rehabilitation Program at Marquette University. He earned his Masters from San Francisco State University, where he utilized cellular imaging techniques to investigate skeletal muscle responses to exercise. Under the mentorship of Dr. Christopher Sundberg, his current research is focused on identifying the factors contributing to the loss of skeletal muscle mass and function with aging.

This week we have Dr. David Bell joining us from UW-Madison for seminar. Dr. Bell is an associate professor where he teaches in the Athletic Training Program and is the director of the Wisconsin Injury in Sport Laboratory where he specializes on identifying the risk factors of musculoskeletal injuries in children due to sport specialization. Please join us on Thursday as we look forward to his talk!

This week at seminar we have Dr. Christian Stilp from the Speech Pathology and Audiology department here at Marquette and who directs the Auditory Lab. His research focuses on how listeners use context to understand speech and other sounds in healthy and impaired hearing. Dr. Stilp has expertise in acoustic context effects, or how acoustic properties between sounds alter perception. His current work focuses on processes of healthy hearing and acoustic changes due to hearing aids and cochlear implants, and how to restore these processes for perception.
