June 4th is International Holocaust Survivor Day – a day set aside to honor the lives, resilience, and legacies of Holocaust survivors around the world.

At the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center, we are humbled to know and work alongside survivors who have entrusted us as stewards of their most profound experiences. Throughout the years, the children and grandchildren of survivors have taken on the mantle of their family story, partnering with us to document and share these powerful testimonies.

Their testimony has always been central to our mission. Now, with the launch of our new website, these stories are more visible and accessible than ever before.

We've made the decision to weave and highlight these stories prominently, as a reminder of their enduring legacy and relevance for teaching the next generation. Because Holocaust education was never about the numbers. At its core, Holocaust education is about people, tremendous loss, and the resiliency of the Jewish people to survive and live.

On this day, we invite you to spend time with their stories – and to join us in honoring the extraordinary people who make our mission possible.

Five years ago, Wisconsin Act 30 was signed into law — ensuring that every student in grades 5–12 across every school district in the state would learn the history of the Holocaust. HERC has been honored to help fulfill that commitment — working alongside educators in 400+ school districts, providing professional development, connecting classrooms to survivor testimony, and creating educational resources that bring this history to life.
But the work is far from over. Antisemitic incidents in Wisconsin have risen 923% since 2015 — a sobering reminder of why this education matters more than ever.
On July 8, HERC is proud to welcome Dr. Pamela Nadell to Wisconsin for "Unpacking American Antisemitism at 250" — a conversation about the history of antisemitism in America and what that history asks of us today.

We hope you'll join us. Learn more and register at https://holocaustcentermilwaukee.org/events/

It is with heavy hearts that the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center mourns the loss of our cherished longtime board member and friend David Fantle, who passed away this week following a cardiovascular emergency. We express our most profound condolences to David’s family, and to all who had the privilege to know him.

The son of a Holocaust survivor, David was very passionate and committed to HERC’s mission. David’s contributions to our organization as a board member and public relations committee chair are vast, and will continue to impact us for many years to come. David most recently had started working with our education team to share his father’s story as part of our speakers bureau.

David was a lifelong educator and student who loved teaching wherever he was, from his position as a professor at Marquette University to his talks on cruise ships. A lover of film and Hollywood, David co-authored the book Hollywood Heyday, a compilation of celebrity interviews representing the nearly 250 he completed over 45 years. David’s constant enthusiasm helped shape our city and state, and lift our entire community up.

For more information on David’s incredible legacy and funeral information, please see the obituary. https://www.blanegoodmanfunerals.com/obituaries/david-fantle/ #!/Obituary

May David’s memory be for a blessing.

What a meaningful afternoon. HERC is honored Archbishop Grob joined our Yom HaShoah commemoration — his reflections on interfaith solidarity remind us why this work matters. Thank you, Archbishop Grob

On Sunday afternoon, Archbishop Grob was invited to speak at Yom HaShoah in Milwaukee. This is the Jewish community's annual remembrance of the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. It was an incredibly moving afternoon, and all the speakers were amazing.

Archbishop Grob is grateful for the invitation and sends a special thanks to the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center.
